- Apple has a set of proprietary professional Quicktime codecs which basically only work on the Mac platform - they are installed when FCS is installed on the system. If you open the Quicktime in player on your DS system, there is a high chance that you will just see a white frame rather than the video.
- QuickTime supports hardware acceleration for some profiles of H.264; however, which profiles these are is not documented and may change on different Mac models. We do our best not to interfere, and some MKV files are known to work with hardware-accelerated decoding.
I'm running on Mac OS X 10.6.8 - Quicktime version 10. Here's the info on the files that won't play: Codecs: MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode. Color profile: HD (1-1-1) Original Format: MPEG HD. Note: VFAM for Mac v2.1 (and therefore XDCAM disc writeback using the PDW-U1) is only available on Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) or higher only. XDCAM disc writeback is not supported on PowerPC platforms or on systems running Mac OS X below 10.5.x (ie Tiger).
